about

I was inspired to make this beat tape as a tribute to all of the producers who have influenced me and my overall style in some major way. You'll hear many nods to various sound engineers such as Nujabes, The Neptunes, RZA, Mr. Hahn, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Blazo, and many others. I'd also like to dedicate this album to 3 special people in my life. First, my aunt Joanne Smith who unfortunately passed away in January of 2015. I played one of the tracks featured on this project for her the night that she passed as both a final farewell, and thank you for being my biggest fan even when I wasn't. The second, dedication goes out to Dereck Higgins, a vastly knowledgeable, and talented individual. Having had the pleasure and privilege of working with this gentleman over at Mind & Soul 101.3 FM, I was inspired to test my hand at sampling his song Synapse. The third and final dedication of this album goes out to one of my best friends Kieran Ledbetter, aka Kookie. The original idea was to release this project in February to coincide with the births and deaths of James Dewitt Yancey (J Dilla) & Jun Seba (Nujabes). But as it happens, Kookie's birthday actually lands within March. So to celebrate the life of someone that I know personally, I decided to postpone the release by a few days. Which also allows me to keep with the theme I started with my very first release, Melodic Fusion. Birthday project drops for the win!
